DIE 2. LANGE NACHT DER FILMMUSIK 02./03.03.2012 - MIAMI VICE Special

Die von Michael Mann („The Insider“, „The Last of the Mohican“) produzierte Cop-Serie „Miami Vice“ zählt auch heute noch zu den wegweisenden und stilbildenden Kreationen in der Fernsehgeschichte. Mit harten Schnitten und schnellen Bildfolgen, pastellfarbener und neongreller Beleuchtung wurde ein Stil geprägt, der den Musikvideos der damaligen Zeit entsprach.

Zwischen 1984 und 1989 wurden insgesamt fünf Staffeln mit insgesamt 111 Folgen ausgestrahlt, die vor allem Sonny-Crockett-Darsteller Don Johnson zu einem Star machten. Mit seinem Partner Ricardo Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas) räumte Crockett als undercover agierender Cop des Miami Vice Police Squad in der sonnigen Metropole Floridas unter Drogenhändlern, Waffenschmugglern und Geldwäschern auf. Doch nicht nur in der Mode setzten Crockett und Tubbs Zeichen, wenn sie in ihrem Ferrari auf Verbrecherjagd gingen und dekorativ mit Ray-Ban-Sonnenbrillen, Armani-Sakkos mit weißen T-Shirts sowie Lederslippern ohne Socken durch die schillernden Sets am Ocean Drive und im Art-déco-Viertel tobten. Auch musikalisch setzte die Serie Zeichen. Das elektronisch-rhythmische Titelthema von Jan Hammer wurde ein weltweiter Hit, und in der Serie sind immer in jeder Folge oft mehrere angesagte Songs zum Einsatz gekommen, wie die folgende Tracklist aller Songs in den 111 Episoden dokumentiert:

Natürlich sind zu einer so Musik-intensiven Fernsehserie auch einige Soundtracks erschienen, die neben einigen begehrten Tracks von Komponist Jan Hammer vor allem Hits wie „In The Air Tonight“ von Phil Collins, „You Belong To The City“ von Glen Frey, „Better Be Good To Me“ von Tina Turner, „Satellite“ von den Hooters oder „Dirty Laundry“ von Don Henley enthielten.
Erst 2002 veröffentlichte Jan Hammer auf massives Begehren seiner Fans das Doppel-Album „Miami Vice - The Complete Collection“. Dagegen ist die Musik von Tim Truman, der die 5. Staffel vertonte, bislang nicht adäquat veröffentlicht worden.
2006 befand Michael Mann, der mit Werken wie „Collateral“ und „Heat“ selbst zu einem großen Regisseur avanciert ist, „Miami Vice“ fürs Kino zu reaktivieren. Allerdings konnte die Kino-Adaption mit Colin Farrell und Jamie Foxx in den Hauptrollen nur begrenzt überzeugen:
„Man muss diesen Film loben, weil er allen durchschnittlichen Polizeifilm-Mainstream weit in den Schatten stellt. Aber man kann ihn nicht wirklich loben, weil man von einem Michael Mann weitaus mehr erwartet, als das. Alles in allem ist 'Miami Vice' visuell und stilistisch deutlich weniger konsequent, als Manns letzte Filme; selten entfaltet er jenen Rhythmus und Drive, jenen Fluss aus Bildern und Musik, der sich zu einer leichten, jazzigen und dennoch jederzeit konzentrierten Atmosphäre verdichtet, den dieser Regisseur so perfekt beherrscht, wie kein anderer, und die ihn zu einem der wenigen echten Autorenfilmer Hollywoods machen. Auch fehlen alle Augenblicke des Innenhaltens, der puren Schönheit, die in Manns Filmen begeistern können – gerade für Fans des Regisseurs ist der Film eine Enttäuschung. Den Fans der Serie dürfte es nicht viel anders ergehen – was vielleicht weniger schlimm ist. Der Titel ist vor allem ein Label zur Erhöhung der Verkäuflichkeit. Der Dackelblick des überforderten Colin Farrell hat mit Don Johnsons Dreitagebart-Melancholie aber so gar nichts gemein, und Jamie Foxx ist viel zu gut, um den Sidekick zu spielen, zu dem er hier gemacht wird“, meint Rüdiger Suchsland in seiner Rezension auf artechock.de. „Auch versucht Mann erst gar nicht, Stimmung und Welt der 80-er anders als durch einige deutliche Zitate wiederauferstehen zu lassen: Die Pastellfarben sind verschwunden, es dominiert das Schwarz und Blaugrau des Neo-Noir, und wie in Collateral und Heat spielen auch diesmal große Teile bei Nacht. Und wieder geht es um Menschen, bei denen Arbeit und Leben derart miteinander verschmelzen, dass sie beides nicht einmal mehr verwechseln können – Crockett und Tubbs, die beiden undercover-cops und Filmhelden sind, was sie tun. So ist des Regisseurs Handschrift trotz allem deutlich erkennbar, und, wie gesagt, mag dies auch ein schwacher Michael-Mann-Film sein, ist es aber kein schwacher Polizeithriller.“ 
Fans der Serie bleiben also besser bei dem Kult der 80er, der sich damals einer fest definierten Optik unterwarf. Erd- und Rottöne waren strengstens verboten, dafür waren Pink und Türkis angesagt. Um dem jeweiligen Farb-Thema gerecht zu werden, wurde selbst der Hintergrund entsprechend eingefärbt. Eine derartige künstlerische Stringenz erlebt man heutzutage in der Fernsehwelt selten.
